Lord of the Flies by William Golding Essay Example for Free

Ruler of the Flies by William Golding Essay Investigate the characters of Ralph and Jack and remark on their jobs in the novel? Ruler of the Flies is a purposeful anecdote, a basic experience story that likewise has further significance. Golding utilizes the characters of Ralph and Jack to show the fight among good and bad inside society. Both have prevailing characters however use techniques that differentiate from multiple points of view. They have various desires for other people and of the island itself, and have contradicting needs and targets. It is important to analyze their distinctive character qualities in detail, so as to see how these impact the improvement of life on the island. At Jacks first appearance in the novel, we remember him as a characteristic chief. Jack is the leader of the ensemble and a severe drill sergeant. Ensemble! Stop! Be that as it may, all through this experience, he keeps up control and nobility. Jack has total trust in his choices. He can't be blamed for stressing individuals by being ambivalent as he generally has clear and positive conclusions. I should be boss I can sing C sharp. Be that as it may, his dark shroud and red hair are traces of a dim and blazing side to his character. These were the primary shades of the Nazi Party banner. Step by step we see Jack transforming from a dictator chief into something significantly more merciless, giving him a role as a kind of Hitler. Conversely, Ralph first seems carefree and cheerful, seeming like a commonplace government funded school kid, wacco wizard golly. He is energized at the possibility of an undertaking toward the start, not thinking about the ramifications of being separated from everyone else and adapting on the island, remaining on his head when he doesn't have a clue what to do. Constrained finally to put stock in the truth of the island, chuckled delightedly again and remained on his head. Ralph is an intuitive individual who tends to hurry into things before thinking about the results. This shows his youthfulness. Ralph is hence very immature and na㠯⠿â ½ve now and again. Later in the novel Ralph thinks back with lament at that first eager investigation just as it were a piece of a more splendid youth. In spite of this, Ralph demonstrates himself to be a solid character who frequently shows clear authority during the novel. He wants request, calling gatherings and utilizing the conch, the image of vote based system and civilisation, Ralph felt a sort of love for the conch. This shows Ralphs confidence in majority rule government. He attempts to regard individuals as equivalents, including characters like Piggy. He thinks about others and is sympathetic, particularly to the littluns. Ralph additionally shows his self-assuredness when managing Piggy, Better Piggy than Fatty, he said finally, with the unequivocal quality of certifiable authority. He is likewise fearless standing up to the clan when they take Piggys glasses considering Jack a brute and a pig and a wicked, ridiculous criminal. Ralphs physical appearance likewise favors him. He is tall, spry, a decent swimmer with a mellowness about his mouth and eyes that declare no demon. This is an away from of Ralphs character. Notwithstanding, he doesn't pass on as much certainty as Jack. Ralph can show up the more fragile of the two by relying upon Piggy for counsel. This is presumably on the grounds that he has had no understanding of initiative and consequently needs certainty. Simon proposes Ralph should be firmer youre boss, you berate em However Ralph could likewise be viewed as receptive. He is constantly arranged to tune in to the two sides of a contention without compelling his own sentiments. Ralph has an idealistic character, never scrutinizing that salvage will come. Ralph procures the regard of the young men and additions their trust. Jack leads through dread. It is an indication of Ralphs decision making ability that he designates obligation and trusts Piggy, having regard for his recommendation. Albeit like every other person he turns out to be increasingly savage so as to endure, dissimilar to Jack he doesn't take this to boundaries. Ralph gets mindful of his squalid appearance with a little fall of his heart. After Simons demise he says, Im terrified of us. Interestingly, Jack turns into a decent sharp tracker and relishes this job. Progressively he starts to receive creature like strategies down like a runner as though he is prepared to track down the fragrance. Jack can be resolved, and will endure. From the start, Jack can't slaughter the pig, however he shows guarantee of finishing the assignment close by I will! Next time! Before long his fixation on murdering the pig dominates and he can no longer monitor his fundamental senses. There are indications that Jack thinks that its harder to keep an unmistakable head. Jack grimaced with an end goal to achieve lucidity, indicating that he was starting to lose focus and control. Jack overlooks home and has no desire to get off the island. Before long, he has no needs, other than to chase and murder. Jack turns out to be progressively overbearing towards everybody. The more drawn out the young men are on the island the more awful he becomes. From the outset Jack targets a large portion of his hostility at Piggy. This is by all accounts a method for dealing with stress when things are turning out badly. Jack utilizes Piggy to vent his dissatisfaction truly. He appears to feel his solitary method of control is through viciousness. Jack demonstrates himself to be a domineering jerk, and regard isn't given to Jack deliberately, he requests it. The motivation behind why individuals obey him is through dread. His supporters become known as the Tribe representing their loss of individual character. As Jacks oppressive style creates he demonstrates himself to be intolerant and expects individuals never to address him. He won't tune in to anyones sentiment. Bollocks to the standards! the expression Jack uses to excuse majority rules system. From the earliest starting point, Jack is reliably inconsiderate to Piggy. He is an exceptionally critical individual, and he fully trusts Piggy. Jack doesn't search generally advantageous or give any indication of tolerating individuals for what their identity is. He has no thought for people groups sentiments. In the end any proposals given to Jack are taken as a danger. Jack shows no regret. A genuine case of this is the occurrence concerning the fire. The fire is the image of security and of demolition of intensity and of expectation. The Hunters whom Jack leads can be seen similarly. An image of security while acquiring food, however of devastation when indiscriminately murdering. By ignoring the fire, Jack demonstrates himself to be questionable, spurning the gathering for his own advantages and needs. He doesn't confess to being to blame or apologize, yet fights back with hostility. It is straightforward why Jack is seen as the undeniable pioneer. He went to the island with experience of considering a mindful position. Ralph, be that as it may, has a progressively unconstrained methodology. He is less inflexible and appears to be ready to adjust to the evolving conditions. All through their time on the island we see Jack and Ralph changing because of their condition and the weights which they face. Regularly Ralph adapts to the situation with reasonableness and reliable discernment, yet the heaviness of duty causes extraordinary pressure. A weird thing occurred in his mind. Something flittered there before his brain like a bats wing, darkening his thought. Jack anyway turns out to be progressively vicious and deteriorates into an overwhelming tyrant. Ruler of the Flies was composed by Golding to feature a portion of the applicable issues of the day. Distributed in 1954, there was a solid overall development against despots and dictatorship following the Second World War. The division among Ralph and Jack features the bay among great and underhanded, two mainlands of experience and feeling, unfit to impart. Jacks job represents fallen humanity, declining as the novel advances into extreme sin and brutality. Ralph likewise gets mindful of the haziness of keeps an eye on heart. Ralphs inability to keep up majority rule government represents mankinds inability to manage our own corrupt natures. Ralph sobbed for the finish of blamelessness, the obscurity of keeps an eye on heart and the fall through the demeanor of the valid, insightful companion called Piggy.

How Accurate Is It to Say That the Black Power Movements Essay

Here and there I concur that the Black force Movements of the 1960’s accomplished nothing for the Black individuals in light of the fact that by 1968 little had changed, and it is in this manner simple to guarantee that Black Power developments accomplished nothing, and in reality negatively affected dark Americans. Anyway somehow or another I differ on the grounds that the Black Power developments in the mid 1960s concurred with the pinnacle of progress for the Civil Rights crusade, for example, the opportunity urban areas of 1966 or the Free D. C. development. Initially I concur that the Black Power Movements accomplished nothing for Black individuals relations among King and other Civil Rights bunches were rarely completely secure, and he was regularly blamed for assuming acknowledgment for the endeavors of others, for instance in the understudy protests of 1961. He was condemned for a skeptical utilization of youngsters in the Birmingham battle of 1963 and for weakness in ending the primary Selma March. These assaults reflect inside competitions that had nothing to do with Black Power. They expanded after 1966 when he moved his concentration toward the north. The Chicago crusade of 1966 was a troubling disappointment and furthermore uncovered a social hole between the good book of scriptures belt pioneers of the south and the ghetto-based young people of the north, who discovered Malcolm X an all the more moving figure. The entire circumstance was exacerbated much by the war in Vietnam, which redirected cash and media consideration and made an enlarging hole among high contrast networks. Many dark individuals detested battling for a nation that esteemed them so little, while white popular assessment saw the refusal of some to serve, similar to Mohammed Ali, as unpatriotic. The most significant point, in any case, is that once lawful equity had been accomplished in 1965 and the center moved to the social and monetary impacts of long haul separation, King’s strategies were inadequate. Also the Chicago crusade. The Albany development Thirdly the Memphis Sanitation laborers strike. The Mississippi Freedom Summer On the other hand the Freedom urban areas were intended to bring ‘home rule’ to the dark network of Washington D. C. The undertaking was begun with the exhibition against the manner in which the neighborhood schools were regulated. Towards the finish of 1966 the dark residents of Washington D. C. had won the option to choose their own educational committees. SNCC picked up $3 million worth of government subsidizing to improve network policing. SNCC advanced comparable tasks for instance in New York the crusade saw dark individuals assume responsibility for the transitional School in Harlem just as in Mississippi set up a Child Development Group in which the gathering raised $1. 5 million from the holy places and the government so as to set up 85 head start focuses to help small kids . Besides the March on Washington was a gigantic achievement gatherings, for example, the SCLC. SNCC, CORE and the NAACP were included it was likewise to honor the a long time since the Emancipation Proclamation was made the crusaded was at first intended to pass a Civil Rights Bill. 250,000 individuals walked to the Lincoln commemoration to hear Kings celebrated ‘I have a fantasy speech’ just as different figures of the Civil Rights Movement. The March drew an immense measure of media consideration. The March guaranteed support for new social liberties enactment which gave the administration capacity to integrate southern states. It introduced the social liberties development as an assembled front. Moreover the Birmingham battle meant to integrate the city’s biggest shopping territories schools and open stops just as requesting a conclusion to racial separation in work. ‘Bull’Connor got a court directive against exhibitions in specific regions to debilitate fights. The third of May the police demonstrators with high weight fire hoses and captured and detained 1300 kids which caused a media furor Kennedy was sickened by the pictures of police viciousness from Birmingham. The centrality of the crusade was that the retail chains were integrated and the racial separation was finished. The Greensboro protests were a triumph it meant to integrate open places, for example, cafés or pools. In February 1960 the demonstration raised to 300 understudies by the fourth dissent it turned out to be profoundly compelling as there were comparative fights like watch-ins in film which by the beginning of 1961 more than 70,000 individuals high contrast had participated in showings. The importance of the demonstrations brought a mass of media consideration which expanded the help towards the social equality battles. Before the finish of 1961 810 towns had integrated their open spots. Woolworths lost diminished by a third during the crusade which indicated the financial intensity of dark individuals. At long last the Freedom rides intended to turn by right triumphs of Morgan v. Virginia and Boynton v. Virginia into true integration of interstate vehicle and interstate vehicle offices set up by SNCC and CORE. The criticalness of the opportunity rides was that it demonstrated that Kennedy upheld the social liberties development and that it denoted another high participation inside the social equality developments. The Poor Peoples Campaign intended to make an alliance sufficiently large to take care of the social and financial issues distinguished during the Chicago taking everything into account the Black Power declined rapidly in the late 1960s since its association was extremely poor and it had minimal expenditure to help itself. It additionally declined on the grounds that the legislature favored King’s the serene strategies to the viciousness and disdain of Black Power. In this manner it appeared as though Black Power had not accomplished anything of genuine significance for dark individuals, and was a factor in the completion of the social equality development overall. Nonetheless, it very well may be said that Black Power managed to accomplish something for dark individuals in general. Dark Power pioneers tried to help the individuals in the downtown ghettos, and they increased dark pride and a feeling of Black Nationalism. Malcolm X specifically was significant in raising the resolve of many dark individuals, and turned into a legend to youthful dark individuals in the USA and around the globe. The development of the Black Power developments in the mid 1960s corresponded with the pinnacle of achievement for the Civil Rights battle †the enactment of 1964-65. From that point, the focal point of battles needed to move the handy issues identified with social and financial hardship, and the capacity to practice the rights that had been picked up. By 1968 little had changed, and it is in this way simple to guarantee that Black Power developments accomplished nothing, and in actuality negatively affected dark Americans. It is difficult to deny that the Black Power developments had a harming sway during the 1960s. The proclaiming of Elijah Mohammed and later Malcolm X that combination was incomprehensible and unwanted, that white individuals were fallen angels and Christianity only a heritage of subjection, made a reflection of white prejudice that must be troublesome. They dismissed the help of white nonconformists and partitioned white from dark. They oppressed integrationist pioneers like Martin Luther King to crusades of individual maltreatment, considering him a fraud, a defeatist and an Uncle Tom. They even enjoyed awful inside fighting, for example, the death of Malcolm X by individuals from the Nation of Islam in 1965. Episodes of brutality, for example, assaults on white individuals, the race mobs of Harlem in 1964 and Watts in 1965, harmed the dark network and made a white kickback. This undermined the guaranteed government consumption on lodging, schools and occupation creation under the Great Society. As losses from Vietnam expanded, they battled against the draft and contended that dark adolescents ought not serve, chafing an undeniably energetic open and media. The current Civil Rights development broke down, as the understudy associations drove by SNCC under Stokely Carmichael received Black Power images and mottos, and declined to co-work with Martin Luther King’s SCLC. The legislature and many white Americans considered the to be networks as selfish, and King as a spent power. The connections that had helped him to pick up changes and speculation vanished, and nothing of hugeness was accomplished for dark Americans after 1966. The rise of Black Power was thoroughly negative. 24. From numerous points of view, in any case, this contention is over-streamlined. The issues looked by the Civil Rights development during the 1960s had started to surface before the Black Power developments created, and could be said to have added to their development. Relations among King and other Civil Rights bunches were rarely totally secure, and he was regularly blamed for assuming acknowledgment for the endeavors of others, for instance in the understudy protests of 1961. He was censured for a negative utilization of youngsters in the Birmingham battle of 1963 and for weakness in stopping the main Selma March. These assaults reflect inner competitions that had nothing to do with Black Power. They expanded after 1966 when he moved his concentration toward the north. The Chicago crusade of 1966 was a terrible disappointment and furthermore uncovered a social hole between the good book of scriptures belt pioneers of the south and the ghetto-based young people of the north, who discovered Malcolm X an all the more motivating figure. This implies by 1966, techniques for battling to improve conditions for dark individuals needed to change, and the Black Power developments offered a few other options. The Semester I Played With Chocolate and Ants for a Technical Class

The Semester I Played With Chocolate and Ants for a Technical Class There is a class here at MIT called How to Design (Almost) Anything- 4.141, where you apply the iterative design process throughout the semester to create an object and then turn the object into a vessel. For a tl;dr, heres the document I used to present my final project (edited for context) For the first half of this class, we had to take a creative process like weaving, knitting, or making chains, change the process to create a 3D object, and discover something new about the process. Some examples are here (slides 20-28). I was inspired by these chocolate balloon bowls, where you dip a balloon in melted chocolate and pop the balloon when the chocolate is set, but  I wanted to somehow constrain the balloons to be amorphous or irregular I had to first figure out how I would constrain the balloon. I tried thin strips of duct tape, but the irregularities werent pronounced enough. I followed this  tutorial for making stress balls using slime and fishnets. The amount of slime I needed was way too much, and removing the slime after the chocolate step was going to be difficult. I tried fishnets- I needed to cut portions of the netting because the holes were too small for the balloon to squeeze through. I made a net using string, which gave me more control over the size of the holes, but the net-making process took way too long Heres some failed attempts with chocolate. The warm chocolate had slightly melted the balloon so the chocolate and the balloon got stuck together. I found this video on how to make balloon bowls using sugar syrup, which is way hotter than melted chocolate. The trick to keeping the balloon from melting was to fill the balloon with water to absorb the heat (higher specific heat). I also coated the balloon and fishnets with cooking spray to help it release and I dipped the balloons multiple times to get a thicker shell. My friend Pete  got the idea to put multiple inflated water balloons inside of a normal balloon, and then use a metal straw to suck the air out of the normal balloon to make the normal balloon contour to the shape of the water balloons The two methods made very different shapes and I made a few of each type: An arrow pointing right Previous An arrow pointing right Next I love that the shells looked kind of grotesque, evoking ideas of insect larvae or aliens, but were made of something so delicious. The second half of this class had us turn our object and into a vessel tailored specifically to hold a medium (like water or sand). My object was already kind of a vessel, but I still needed to choose a medium and change the bowl to fit the mediums needs. Of course, I chose insects. My friend Anna has pet bearded dragons so she keeps live worms in her room. I really wanted to see them burrow through chocolate, but because of health/animal rights reasons I was only allowed to use the ants living in East Campus. The worms looked really cool when I put them in the chocolate just for photos (warning for worm imagery) If ants could do the labor of making complex structures for me, I would provide shelter or food for them, resulting in a symbiotic relationship. In order to make these structures more interesting, I wanted multiple separate layers for the ants to explore. I tried making concentric bowls by cutting them in half using a hot knife and sealing the bowls back up inside each other with melted chocolate. This wasnt very elegant because of the visible seam after gluing the halves back together. I decided to use alternating layers of chocolate and plaster, where the plaster layers would only cover half of the balloon, and I would rotate the balloon so the location of the plaster-half would be different each time. So by the time I figured all of this out, the weather had gotten warm and the ants stopped coming inside. I needed a way to simulate the disintegration of the chocolate I used a pipette and hot water to melt patches of the chocolate, imagining how the ants would create paths and patches in the chocolate while being unable to eat through the plaster. The Writing Of Writing Essays - 1266 Words

Reflecting back from the beginning of the semester, I can honestly say that I believed that I was already a really good writer. However, I have struggled with the thought of writing. Ever since I was little, I dreaded the thought of writing essays, but when it came down to get the job done I never struggled and always earned good grades. Up until around half way though this semester I still had this fear. I am thankful that this class has made me overcome the fear and thought of writing essays, even though when it was actually time for me to write them I did just fine. Pathetic Fallacy in Romeo and Juliet in Act 3 Scene 1 Essay Example For Students

Pathetic Fallacy in Romeo and Juliet in Act 3 Scene 1 Essay Romeo and Juliet is one of the most famous plays written by Shakespeare, it is famous for its intense romance. It was written in the 17th century and by reading the play it is quite obvious that people at that time had very different views on life than the present time. At the time of Shakespeare, religion was an extremely serious matter, things such as honour and the importance of family were extremely valued and any that went against or ridiculed these beliefs were considered criminals. For these reasons Shakespeare decided he would set the entire play in Italy to avoid confrontation from the people. The main scene of the play will be analysed, Act 3 Scene 1, in this scene the mood of the play changes from happiness to sadness and changes the whole play, making it a key scene in Romeo and Juliet. The techniques used by Shakespeare, such as pathetic fallacy, to create tension in this dramatic part of the play will also be analysed. Before this scene there is already a certain degree of tension throughout the play; the most obvious one is before the beginning, the prologue, which tells the audience that this story will end in tragedy, thus ultimately death. In Act 1 Scene 1 there is a fight between the two houses Capulet and Montague, in this scene there is a lot of tension and hatred What, drawn and talk peace? I hate the word, as I hate hell, all Montagues, and thee. Have at thee coward. In this scene it also shows how easily the two houses can start a brawl with no concern for the civilian lives. The brawl is interrupted by the Prince, who states that if there is anymore fighting between the houses the house responsible will suffer the death penalty; the tension created at this point is recalled throughout all of the play. The play develops and becomes quite confusing for the audience, Romeo states he is out of love and then later on within seconds falls in love with Juliet at the Capulets party, there is als o an abundant amount of tension when Romeo and his friends go to their most hated houses party without an invitation. After Romeo falls in love, Romeo discovers that Juliet is a Capulet; even so he decides to risk his life just to see Juliet later on in Act 2 Scene 2. The events described in the previous paragraph create a lot of tension early on in the play. At the beginning of Act 3 Scene 1 the fear of Benvolio encountering the Capulets in public is apparent I pray thee good Mercutio lets retire, the day is hot, the Capulets are abroad. And if we meet we shall not scape a brawl, for now these hot days, is the mad blood stirring this is a perfect example of a pathetic fallacy, this is a technique used by Shakespeare to give inanimate objects, such as the weather, human emotions, this helps the audience understand better the mood of the scene. In this case Shakespeare uses the weather to represent Benvolios fear. Benvolio uses the weather to try and convince Mercutio to retire because he knows that is they have an encounter with the Capulets a fight will surely follow. From the use of this technique the audience is given an insight of the fear and tension the characters are feeling at that particular moment. Despite these warnings Mercutio refuses to leave because he is not scared of an encounter with the Capulets. Mercutio then criticizes his fear and points out how Benvolio was always involved in the previous fights between the houses, this particular part of the scene creates a lot of tension and Mercutios willingness to stay increases it further. .u4bf99533203dbaaf5e824ab698cd3ae5 , .u4bf99533203dbaaf5e824ab698cd3ae5 .postImageUrl , .u4bf99533203dbaaf5e824ab698cd3ae5 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u4bf99533203dbaaf5e824ab698cd3ae5 , .u4bf99533203dbaaf5e824ab698cd3ae5:hover , .u4bf99533203dbaaf5e824ab698cd3ae5:visited , .u4bf99533203dbaaf5e824ab698cd3ae5:active { border:0!important; } .u4bf99533203dbaaf5e824ab698cd3ae5 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u4bf99533203dbaaf5e824ab698cd3ae5 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u4bf99533203dbaaf5e824ab698cd3ae5:active , .u4bf99533203dbaaf5e824ab698cd3ae5:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u4bf99533203dbaaf5e824ab698cd3ae5 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u4bf99533203dbaaf5e824ab698cd3ae5 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u4bf99533203dbaaf5e824ab698cd3ae5 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u4bf99533203dbaaf5e824ab698cd3ae5 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u4bf99533203dbaaf5e824ab698cd3ae5:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u4bf99533203dbaaf5e824ab698cd3ae5 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u4bf99533203dbaaf5e824ab698cd3ae5 .u4bf99533203dbaaf5e824ab698cd3ae5-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u4bf99533203dbaaf5e824ab698cd3ae5:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare EssayIt is also interesting to note the setting chosen by Shakespeare. Romeo and Juliet is set in Verona in Italy, at the time things such as love were not acceptable on stage. Shakespeare moved it to Italy to avoid confrontation and scepticism from the audience and authorities. Many had never travelled before and getting a glimpse of what happened outside of the country was extremely interesting, this factor gave even more attention at that time to this play. At the beginning of the scene only Benvolio and Mercutio are there, the tension is rising because of Mercutios refusal to go home. When Tybalt and the Capulets arrive there is a major increase in tension because there will surely be a fight, as they start to argue and then eventually start to fight there is a great amount of tension. When Romeo enters the tension starts to increase rapidly as Tybalt approaches him after disregarding the fight with Mercutio. Tybalt starts to fight Romeo, which results in the death of Mercutio, because of this Romeo is infuriated and kills Tybalt when he returns. Mercutio is a very humorous and energetic character and is always quite happy to fight; this is probably because he is of neither houses and thus plays a very neutral part in the play. He is also related to the Prince and probably believes he will not get involved between the fights of the two houses. Because of this behaviour he often puts other characters in danger, especially in this scene when he refuses to leave to avoid a fight. Mercutio loves to play with words and can easily anger people with his jousting. Mercutios jousting and carelessness for a fight is very dangerous because if a fight arose between the two houses nobody would try to stop them, this situation creates further tension. Mercutio seems to enjoy the amount of tension increasing and is part of his personality. The knowledge of the major possibility of a fight starting alone creates a lot of tension; another thing that creates tension is the knowledge that whichever house starts the fight will be punished by the death penalty. The audience knows that the play will end in death and thus the tension builds up when the scenario of a possible tragedy is apparent, this is called dramatic irony. The language used by Shakespeare is the main cause of tension during this scene. One of the best examples of language used are the phrases used by Mercutio towards Tybalt thou art a villain, Good king of cats, by my heal I care not, A plague aboth your houses! Those are some of the many quotes of language used by Shakespeare to create tension. When Mercutio and Tybalt encounter each other a verbal fight breaks out, Shakespeare uses these two contrasting characters to create tension. Whilst they insult each other the audience know this is going to escalate into a fight and thus tension is created. Although Shakespeares language is elaborate it is apparent that they are insulting each other, and through the escalation of tension the audience comes to realise that the prophecy that was said in the prologue is about to become true. Benvolo is very important character in the play. He takes the part of the narrator in most scenes; he also helps recap events when there is a fast paced scene. He told the Prince what happened when the two houses clashed and Mercutio and Tybalt died. His helps the audience have a better understanding of the play and makes it easier to understand. He keeps the audience up to date and helps the tension remain throughout the play. A interesting thing to note is that characters of high rank always talk in riming couplets, this is Shakespeares way to tell the audience they are important. Although it is not a major role Benvolios part is helpful for the understanding of the play. .u4407ef7c260d9325e701ef1cce4931a9 , .u4407ef7c260d9325e701ef1cce4931a9 .postImageUrl , .u4407ef7c260d9325e701ef1cce4931a9 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u4407ef7c260d9325e701ef1cce4931a9 , .u4407ef7c260d9325e701ef1cce4931a9:hover , .u4407ef7c260d9325e701ef1cce4931a9:visited , .u4407ef7c260d9325e701ef1cce4931a9:active { border:0!important; } .u4407ef7c260d9325e701ef1cce4931a9 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u4407ef7c260d9325e701ef1cce4931a9 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u4407ef7c260d9325e701ef1cce4931a9:active , .u4407ef7c260d9325e701ef1cce4931a9:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u4407ef7c260d9325e701ef1cce4931a9 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u4407ef7c260d9325e701ef1cce4931a9 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u4407ef7c260d9325e701ef1cce4931a9 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u4407ef7c260d9325e701ef1cce4931a9 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u4407ef7c260d9325e701ef1cce4931a9:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u4407ef7c260d9325e701ef1cce4931a9 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u4407ef7c260d9325e701ef1cce4931a9 .u4407ef7c260d9325e701ef1cce4931a9-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u4407ef7c260d9325e701ef1cce4931a9:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: The Withered Arm EssayShakespeare uses a lot of techniques to create tension. Pathetic fallacy is when inanimate objects reflect human emotions, for example, as I said before, the weather in Act 3 Scene 1. Another technique used is dramatic irony; this is when the audience know something that the characters dont know such as Romeo and Juliets marriage, which ultimately led to everyones death. Another technique, which I have not mentioned, is juxtaposition, which is when there are two contrasting emotions which closely follow each other, for example when Romeo and Juliet get married it is very happy, then when everyone died it was sad. Using these techniques Shakespeare has created a truly compelling, fascinating and deeply emotional piece which is appreciated by everyone around the globe.
